Program Intent

The intention of Embrace The Moon’s Teacher Development & Training program is to develop high quality Taijiquan and Qigong instructors who will offer their skills confidently and professionally within a growing field of complementary healthcare and general interest.

What Can You Expect?

Over the course of the training, a student may follow one or both of two branches: The Chen Taijiquan System or Luohan System of Qigong. There will be courses aimed specifically at cultivating one or the other of these branches and there will courses that are designed for both. Graduates of this program can expect to have both knowledge and poise to teach a minimum of one form of their choosen branch(es) in a variety of circumstances including in workshops, ongoing classes, corporations, gymnasiums, health clubs, etc. Among other skills, graduates will be able to:

  • Clearly convey to others credible information about Taijiquan and Qigong.
    • Verbally
    • Physically
    • In Writing
  • Identify and serve a wide diverstiy of individual needs from the athlete to the senior to those with special health concerns
  • Express with skill and confidence form modification for those with special health concerns.
  • Continue to research and develop their practice.
  • Stay current with new research about Taijiquan and Qigong
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals and the community at large to co-create useful and high quality programs for the community.

Director, Kimberly Ivy

Kimberly Ivy has created a unique training program for the instruction and certification of Qigong and Taijiquan instructors. Kim has 35 years of experience in study and application of the martial and internal arts including over 25 years specifically of Taijiquan and Qigong. She is the founder of Embrace The Moon Taijiquan and Qigong in Seattle, WA a thriving educational environment for Taijiquan, Qigong and other self-development methods. Embrace The Moon and Ms. Ivy carry with them a strong reputation for contributing to the growth and development of Taijiquan and Qigong as complementary health method in the Seattle area as well as for solid skill and compassion in the teaching environment. Commitment & Cost
Students will work with Kim to develop an individual course to fit their own needs of time and process in accordance with the intention of the program. Students should plan on the minimum of will be approximately 200+ hours of additional class time instruction, offered over a 2-3 year period in specialized capsules & weekend workshops. Additionally, students are expected to be enrolled in several ongoing weekly classes. Students must develop a steady home practice and be actively present and involved with the school. Costs involved are class dues, workshop fees, materials and travel.

Who Should Participate?

Generally those with at least 2 years of solid practice of Taijiquan and/or Qigong may apply to participate in this program, in some cases those with less experience, depending on their background & intention, may embark along the path.

Chen Taijiquan Clinic: The Basics of Interactive Practice & Beginning Level Applications

Several Grandmaster workshops are scheduled throughout the year.
Please choose a minimum of two.

Examinations for Certification held upon successful completion of minimum of 200 program hours, 600 hours of documented home/classtime practice in each Taijiquan and Qigong, submission of minimum of 2500 word (minimum) essay/research paper and minimum of 50 apprenticeship hours with a senior teacher/mentor. Examinations will be written, oral and demonstration of skill in form and teaching.
